LFMI Receives Freedom Reward
By LFMI
"The Free Market", 2000 No. 6
The Lithuanian Liberal Youth, an independent voluntary organization of young Lithuanians, recognized the Lithuanian Free Market Institute as a team that merited most for Freedom in the year 2000. This reward was presented to LFMI's President Elena Leontjeva at the tenth meeting of the Lithuanian Liberal Youth on December 2. In her acceptance speech, Elena Leontjeva said: "Although freedom in our material life has increased only slightly in 2000, this year has undoubtedly brought a greater spirit of Freedom to our lives. An increasing number of people have started tying their hopes for a better life to individual freedom. The work former Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius launched to free people's activities and to reduce and rationalise government served as a turning point in the life of Lithuania. But the way toward reforms had to be paved much earlier. These reforms would have been impossible without LFMI's educational activities, which have been ongoing for many years, and without LFMI's constant and persistent presentation of ideas to the people in power. Instilling freedom requires a great deal of work from people who are dedicated to it. However, it is important to understand that freedom does not exist somewhere around us. It is in the mind and attitude of mankind; it is in man's relationship with himself and with others." foto7 - 19298 Bytes
