Goal

The goal of the programme is to promote the creation of prudent supervision of pension funds balanced with sound operational principles.

Tasks

Drawing on the analysis of the legislative basis for pension funds and assessment of foreign experience, the project teams will develop principles, goals, areas, and methods of pension fund supervision as well as the powers and responsibilities of the supervisory institution. The results will constitute a conceptual framework for prudent supervision of pension funds. The policy proposal will be submitted to decision makers and other institutions involved in building and utilising the supervisory framework for pension funds. Dissemination activities will be launched to lend support to the policy advocacy efforts and to enlighten market participants on sound supervisory principles of pension fund. The accomplishment of the project will provide a stimulus, and a structured approach to, the creation of prudent supervision of pension funds. High-quality research will inspire informed policy debates by providing arguments and solutions.

About LFMI

The Lithuanian Free Market Institute (LFMI) is an independent non-profit organisation established in 1990 to promote the ideas of economic liberalism, based on the principles of individual freedom and responsibility, free market and limited government.
LFMI pursues its mission by exploring key issues of economic policy, developing conceptual reform packages, drafting and evaluating legislation, submitting policy recommendations at the legislative and executive levels, and launching educational campaigns. To gain passage for policy proposals, LFMI's policy analysts participate in cabinet meetings, parliamentary committee sittings, ministerial task forces, and non-governmental forums. LFMI's activities also include sociological surveys, publications, conferences, workshops, and lectures.
In the nine years of existence LFMI has addressed a variety of core issues confronting the economic reform process, enriching public debates, making a profound impact on the legislative outcome, and strengthening the democratic process. The expansion of LFMI's areas of expertise and its ever-increasing involvement in the economic policy process is a result of a systematic activity and LFMI's timely response to Lithuania's changing needs. LFMI is well positioned to promptly and effectively advocate progressive change by virtue of its commitment, experience and reputation.
