F. A. Hayek's anniversary commemorated
May 1999 marked the 100th birth anniversary of Friedrich von Hayek (1899 - 1992), winner of a Nobel Prize in Economics and one of this century's most eminent advocates of the classical liberal doctrine. To commemorate the occasion, the Lithuanian Free Market Institute held a seminar to discuss the importance of F. Hayek's works and ideas.
Dr. Algirdas Degutis, a Lithuanian translator of "The Road to Serfdom" and "Law, Legislation and Liberty: Rules and Order," Senior Policy Analyst at the Lithuanian Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, discussed the impact of F. Hayek on western civilisation. F. Hayek's stance on human rights was addressed by Gintaras Steponavičius, a lecturer at the Institute of International Relations and Political Sciences. LFMI's Legal Expert Remigijus Šimašius presented Hayek's concept of law. Guoda Steponavičienė, a policy analyst at LFMI, spoke about Hayek's conception of dispersed knowledge and economic calculation.
